Hi Everyone! I promise.. I will try to make my last long email of the week!
I hope you are all doing well, staying healthy, sane, and have plenty of toilet paper (lol)! I know there has been a ton of information thrown at you this week from multiple teachers (multiplied by each child you have)… I know it's easier said than done but please don't get overwhelmed and remember to take it one day at a time. Just remember, this is completely brand new to us all and to be honest, I have confidence that your kids will probably surprise you with how independent they have become this year so far once they get the hang of it! As a reminder, we will begin full digital learning on Monday, March 30th. I will have regular office hours posted where I will be available via email, telephone, or even video chat and will also be available through email throughout the day. However, if something is urgent, please put that in the subject line. These office hours are for the students AND you all! I will also post a proposed schedule for the students to follow this coming week. We will see how it goes this week and tweek it as needed as we go along through this digital learning journey. I plan to hold daily check in calls and/or forms with the students and I will be doing live lessons and pre-recorded lessons as much as possible. The students will be required to participate each day (in some form) as I will be taking attendance, per the county guidelines (I have attached them below for your reference). My office hours, a recommended daily schedule, and links to my Google Classroom will all be on my weebly website. I am in the process of updating it now. I have posted a link to my website below, you can also get to it through Plato Academy Pinellas Park webpage. Here’s an outline of our "new" classroom: 1. GOOGLE CLASSROOM- We will be utilizing google classroom everyday for all assignments and subjects. Google classroom could also be easily accessed as an app on a tablet or smartphone. 2. ATTENDANCE WILL BE TAKEN DAILY - Please make sure your child logs into google classroom everyday. Each day I will have a "daily check in" with them. It will be a form in google classroom and they will need to complete it. It is basically the new “morning meeting.” -County Guideline for Attendance: • Teachers must take daily attendance in FOCUS. • Attendance must be taken once a day in elementary schools (Homeroom teacher) and each period in secondary schools. • AP’ s will still run a daily report of which teachers have not taken attendance and teachers will be contacted if they’ve not taken attendance. What is New (This should calm some nerves about computer troubles, time conflicts, etc.): • Teachers now have up to three days to go back and change daily attendance. • Students are considered present if they have engaged in the course in any way on the specific date. This may include any of the following on the specific date: o Answering the attendance poll question o Submitting an assignment o Watching videos, live lessons or downloading work o Posting information o Emailing the teacher o Other examples of interaction not included above • Students may log on to the computer any time during the 24 hours of the day to be counted present. • Teachers should have completed attendance in Focus for the previous day by 9am. Other Information: * . -If a student does not log in or interact with the class or teacher in any way, the student is considered absent on that date. -If a student completes the assignment/classwork for the day on a later date, the work should be accepted and graded by the teacher using the normal make-up work procedures in the class. However, the student is still considered absent for that day. -It is important Teachers report to the Principal, and the Guidance Counselor any student who has not been in contact and are not attending. -If teachers know of any information regarding the student barrier pertaining to digital learning they can forward it to the principal. 3. ASSIGNMENTS- Students will have assignments per subject area per day. Each assignment should take no more than 20-30 minutes. Most of the resources they will be familiar with however, others may need minimal support. There will be a "pacing guide" so I will have dated all the assignments according to what day they should complete it, but most will not be due until Friday evening. However, they will need to remember to do their check in DAILY to be considered present each day. I understand this is a difficult time for families and I am trying to make this as easy as possible. I will do my best to assign a list of "To Do's" to help the students follow along daily. 4. GOOGLE HANGOUTS- Occasionally, I will be holding live lessons and morning meetings. These will be scheduled ahead of time. This will be through GOOGLE HANGOUTS. Students will need to access their calendar in their google accounts and accept the invitation to the hangout out. Then come time for the hangout, they will go back to their calendar and click on the google hangout. They will also receive an email for each invite. 5. BRAINPOP and BRAINPOP JR.- Please logon to Brianpop and with your support, have your child create a free brianpop account. I will be using this website for instruction. 6. Frindle- Here is a link to but the book Frindle. We will be doing a novel study on it starting next week. https://www.amazon.com/Frindle-Andrew-Clements-ebook/dp/B0030H7UM6/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=frindle&qid=1585336903&sr=8-2 |
